Aston Le Walls
We had a good day at Aston. It was a beautiful sunny day and I found myself quite busy with four to ride.
I had Hussard Brun doing his first Intermediate, so it was a big day and he could not have gone any better. He did a very pleasing test of 29, and.a double clear with 6 time faults. He could have been higher up but I thought 6 time faults felt like a good pace for his first Intermediate. He flew around, felt fabulous and came 6th.
Vicky Brake’s Hardingville Lagoon was in the Novice and did a very nice test, I was pleased with his score of 31. Unfortunately I managed to miss a fence on the cross country which is a bit incompetent, I am big time in debt to Vicky, but the horse was very pleasing.
Then I rode Grantstown Star Love in his first Novice. He had an excellent day, did a good test of 31 which is going to improve a lot. At the moment it is just as good as he can do with his strength. He had one down jumping, he just clipped a water tray, and his cross country was excellent. I took him very slowly, and he equipped himself well for his first Novice.
Cusco was a winner! He did a good test of 28, no marks were thrown at him. He show jumped well, and the cross county was really good. I have run him on a bit this spring and he has got right into gear. He felt great and was one second inside the time. I just won it as I was equal with Giovanni Ugolotti. We had exactly the same scores but I was 2 seconds closer to the optimum score which was pretty intense and very bad luck for him.
We have had a good day. The Event was great, the ground was good with a lot of watering and spiking. They started cross country at 9am and we were still out there at 7pm, so it was a pretty crazy Aston day.
