Pau
I had a fantastic day in Pau today, with all three horses performing brilliantly coming home clear inside the time. A definate first and very unexpected as Pau has not always been the luckiest event for me.
Macchiato gave me a great round but I had a lucky moment at the rail before the first water, Mac however carried on regardless jumping the arrowhead and corner as if nothing had happened! He made the rest of the course feel like a novice and finished comfortably inside the time to sit in 9th place going into tomorrow's show jumping phase.
Oslo also gave me a brilliant ride with a couple of untidy moments, but he was very genuine and felt classy, galloping all the way to the line seemingly not at all tired! With Clayton Fredericks (Bendigo) picking up a few time faults Oslo has moved up to sit in 2nd behind Christopher Burton (Holstein Park Leilani . However, Clayton has objected to his penalties so this could change again before the morning.
Lionheart gave me my ride of the day. He felt very classy and was foot perfect finishing comfortably inside the time and looking like he had done nothing to move up to 6th place.
It was a very hot day and the course caused plenty of trouble early on, as it usually does, and I was very prepared for the two 9yr olds to come back with a few time faults. It shouldn’t have crossed my mind! The ground rode pretty well which is a relief and fingers crossed for tomorrow.
There will be an exciting climax to the HSBC Classics Series with Mary currently sitting in 10th with Imperial Cavalier. Who knows what might happen.
