Burghley - Final Day

It was a fantastic final day at Burghley with both Seacookie and Macchiato jumping excellent clear rounds in today's show jumping phase.  Mac’s clear round moved him up two places to finish 5th. His round was one of the best he has had and he felt really fit and well after Saturday’s cross country.  Having had two four star runs with frustrating blips it was a real boost to have had such a good weekend.  It was also very exciting for Jane and Michael Kier his owners.  They sadly couldn’t be there for the cross country as they had a family wedding on the Isle of Wight, but happily they came back to join the excitement today.

Seacookie also jumped a superb clear round moving him up to 2nd place.  He was certainly on his toes and was his usual spooky self which resulted in one time fault.  This potentially could have been quite expensive if Caroline Powell and Lenamore had had a pole down but she jumped clear and was a very deserving winner.  Cookie had a fantastic competition all round and I couldn’t have hoped for a better result for him, however, it would have been nice to have won!  Owners Catherine and David Witt were at Burghley soaking up the tension, but it was particularly exciting for them as this is one of their horses best 4* results.

Both horses seem to have come through the weekend in great condition and will now have a well deserved holiday until Christmas.    Certainly a large part of the credit to how well the horses have fared must go to the excellent conditions that the Burghley team provided, it was a superb weekend for eventing and they should be very proud of what they achieved.

We now have a couple of days at home to regroup before heading off to Blenheim where I have Lionheart in the 8/9yo CIC3* and Oslo and Parklane Hawk in the CCI3*.  Cool Mountain also goes to Blenheim as it is our Team GB WEG training week, so I can’t imagine how hectic it will turn out to be.
