Burghley - Day 3

I have just had a great day at Burghley with both horses going superbly across country. Macchiato felt back to his best and apart from taking a circle at the exit of the trout hatchery, went all the direct routes. He unfortunately lost a shoe which made him slip a little and definitely cost us a few valuable seconds, having said that he still jumped confidently, finished the day in 8th place and fingers crossed he should be ok tomorrow.

I then had a long wait until Seacookie was due to go.  There was a long hold while Nicola Malcolm was tended to by medics but happily all reports say she is doing very well.  Seacookie however, coped well with the delay and gave me an excellent ride across country.  He was also a bit exuberant through the trout hatchery so I was unable to make the tight turn to the angled hedge and that pretty much cost me my 1.6 time faults.  However, he is still in third place going into tomorrow’s show jumping which is fantastic.  With just a show jump between the top three and the next three just a show jump behind me I will be praying for a clear round!

Overall it was a very successful day and the course certainly rode much better than last year.
