Glanusk International

There was a fair amount of drama in the show jumping phase of the CCI* at Glanusk yesterday, resulting in significant changes in the leader board.  Fernhill Highlight moved up from 6th place to finish 2nd with a clear round and Killags Fox Trot frustratingly dropped from 3rd to 7th with two poles down.  It was a great win for Michael Jackson and The Masters Apprentice, a horse I had in the yard last spring and whose bit infamously broke at Lackham College horse trials!

My two 7yo’s overall had an excellent competition and would have really benefitted from the experience.  Fernhill Highlight had previously done a 1* so for him it was less of a challenge, but for Killags Fox Trot it was a big step up and he took it all in his stride.  Both will now have a couple of week’s holiday before starting their autumn campaign.

On Sunday we had a crazy schedule, aslong with the two CCI* horses to show jump I had five horses coming up for the one day event.  Seacookie was one of three in the Open Intermediate section and was having another run before the CIC*** at Barbury next weekend.  He went really well jumping a good double clear.  Oslo scored 22.7 in the dressage, rolled a pole in the show jumping and after a quiet clear across country finished 10th.  Gaucho very annoyingly jumped the wrong side of a flag across country so was eliminated.  After leading the dressage on a score of 18.6 and show jumping clear, this was more than just a little bit frustrating!  Bay My Hero was having his first run back since his CCI* win at Tattersalls.  This was only his second Intermediate start and he led after dressage with a score of 27.7. Despite two poles down in the show jumping and a steady clear across country he finished 8th.  The Max Factor was my only novice ride of the day and he jumped a very good double clear to finish just outside the top ten.
